SUSTAINABLE SNEAKER WITH MICROPLASTIC-FREE SOLE

The sole of the MARATHON SNEAKERS is made of 100% FSC-certified natural rubber, thus avoiding the unnecessary abrasion of microplastic particles. According to a study by the Fraunhofer Institute for Environment and Safety from 2018, the abrasion of shoe soles ranks seventh in terms of annual per capita emissions of microplastics - the abrasion of car tires remains the undisputed number one.


The success story of JECKYBENG x NOVESTA began two years ago with the URBAN OUTDOOR SNEAKER, went into the second round with the Marathon and now the third with JECKYBENG's MARATHON II - the name is based on the original Marathon model by NOVESTA, which was specially designed for the Czechoslovak Olympic Games Team for the 1988 Games in Seoul and then developed into a bestseller. The current model is not intended for elite sport, but for every urban outdoor explorer who feels at home in the city and on the terrain.
The sneaker, whose silhouette is strongly reminiscent of the style of the 80s, is produced in the historic NOVESTA factory in Partizánske - 110 km east of the Slovakian capital Bratislava. The upper is made of grain wool - a traditional Portuguese fabric that is created when the wool is processed into a thick fabric and then felted to create a weatherproof, hard-wearing surface. The NOVESTA characteristic natural rubber outsole is ideal for autumn and longer distances in slightly tougher conditions, because the non-slip sole provides the necessary grip even on wet surfaces.
Soft lining and a padded EVA midsole also ensure a comfortable, cushioned feel. Classic cotton laces, a colored heel loop and the label on the tongue are the stylish details of the otherwise simple sneaker.
Not only does the shoe look great, it also follows the environmentally friendly approach of using natural footwear such as wool felt and JECKYBENG's signature water-repellent fabric made from Bio-Paper Yarn. NOVESTA is committed to producing shoes according to the highest environmental standards. That is why they use natural rubber and 100% cotton and linen. These materials allow them to produce ecological shoes of the highest quality.
The natural rubber sole is pressed onto the shoe body by machine. The shoe is then finished with precision by skilled craftsmen. This ethical and ecological process results in tire tracks around the outsole - Novesta's trademark!
