Interview with the photographer Olaf Unverzart
From the mixture of a lot of cycling, being interested in travel and pictures, the desire to become a reportage photographer arose. Photographer Olaf Unverzart in an interview with JECKYBENG.
JB: Can you briefly introduce yourself?
OU: I, Olaf Unverzart, grew up on a farm in Bavaria in 1972.
JB: How did you get into photography?
OU: The mixture of a lot of cycling, an interest in travel and pictures resulted in the desire to become a reportage photographer. Instead, I studied art with a focus on photography.
JB: What cameras do you shoot with?
OU: I work with different systems and brands. Preferably with Hasselblad and a lot with Sinar.
JB: Do you have a favorite motif? If yes, why this?
OU: There are some paintings that I like a lot. They stay and I never questioned their existence. In addition to the "good picture" there are also the moments and stories about it. Like a picture in continuous rain on a deserted lake in Patagonia. Suddenly, despite the heavy rain, there was a bright yellow light, which made the swaying colored pedal boats my motif.
JB: What project(s) are you currently working on?
OU: My new book about my grandmother's centenary will be published in May. I'm working on it right now: “My 100th year, fountain books, Berlin
JB: How do you make your money?
OU: Image sales, publications, teaching positions
JB: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
OU: As the same, even more in the fresh air, less in front of the computer
JB: What makes you happy?
OU: Self-determined healthy free life with my family.
JB: Tell us a little bit about your book ALP
OU: Shows images of a 12-year observation and analysis of the Alps. I am particularly interested in a landscape space occupied and designed by people. A subjective documentation of what the Alps looked like in the early 2000s.
JB: What does a typical day in the life of Olaf Unverzart look like?
OU: Take children to daycare. Until half past four in the studio. fetch children
Nevertheless, as much cycling, traveling and reading as possible.
